Luray Cavern

Today I'm going to write about our trip to Luray Caverns. It was a sunny day. Mom decided to take us to a place we never been to. It is Luray Caverns. Luray Caverns is a natural wonder. It was found in 1878. Millions of people visited Luray Caverns after it was open to public. Luray Cavern's sort of mix in with Shenandoah Park. But now it's called Shenandoah Valley. If the people didn't find Luray Cavern there would be no Luray Caverns. They would only have the store on top of the cave that no one found.

Luray Caverns is a cave. It has lots of stalagmites and stalactite. Mostly Luray Caverns has stalactites. There are 3 ponds in the cave. One looks like the sea. We made wishes and threw pennies in the pond. The second pond was dark. The third one was bright ans without the waves, it looks like a mirror. And the third one with the stalactites on the ceiling, I thought it was stalagmites from the pond! I knew it was actually the reflections. It's because I didn't look long enough the first time. There is also a giant stalagmite that fell. I forgot how old is was.

Did you know how the stalagmites and stalactites grow? If you don't, I have a little story about how stalagmites and stalactites grow. Over 600 million years ago, one day a drop of water with tiny bits of limestones was on the ceiling. The water and some limestone fell down, then millions and millions of more drops came down. The limestones stayed on the ceiling formed cone shapes are called stalactites. The limestone that was on the ground formed upside-down cone shapes are called stalagmites. You can not touch the limestones because you have germs and oil (body oil ) on your hands. You might stop the limestones from growing. Then no much interesting things will be in your writing, if you are writing about Luray Caverns, like me.

Luray Caverns is not the only cave in the world. There are hundreds of caves in almost every part of the world. I heard that there is a cave that is the biggest cave in the world. I forgot the name of it. Luray Caverns is sort of scary. But I had mostly fun. I took a lot of pictures. I took a picture of me cross-eyed. I like that picture the most.

National Zoon

3/28/08

All right, today I'm writing about the Zoo we went to. It is called the National Zoo. It opens to public for free. The end. Well, I can't make it the end because this is only the introduction.

What do I like the most? You're kidding! I like all the animals! Except for that stinky horse, that is. And except that I didn't get to see all the animals. Oh, well, I guess that's all I have to say for this.

I saw a sea lion, a beaver, ducks, and elephant, reptiles, and a stinky horse. Oops, I forgot. There were 2 monkeys on the wires in the sky. Just like in the circus. The beaver was with the ducks. It was carrying a stick all the time. The elephant was eating. I don't really know how it cut its food. In the reptiles place, there were 75 years old tortoises! There were males and females. Also African family events was there. I got food. But I dropped my chicken so I had to share with Kathy.

Okay, so here's the stinky horse. It's home is even stinkier that itself. I didn't stay there for long anyway. Yay! Okay, here's the problem. I don't have any more to write except that I don't like the horse home. So, good bye!

My Good Friday

Okay, no more funny stuff. I am going to tell you about last Friday. I stayed home because it was Good Friday. I don’t think you got that. We went to Butler’s Orchard. We went for an Easter Egg Hunting. I went to Butler’s Orchard before on a class field trip. I don’t know here it is. I think it is really close to the strawberry pick. But don’t try that direction. I’m only guessing.

Morning
I keep waiting in line. This is taking forever! Finally we are at the front. We got the tickets. Let’s go! Wait. Now let’s go! This is so easy! The eggs are in plain sight! I found three whole baskets of eggs. They have nothing in them. I have to dump them in the hen’s nest to get a goodie bag. Then we went horse back riding. It was bumpy. Can we go to the slides now? Not yet. Now? Sure. I went on the biggest slide three times. I went on the slide with the black tunnel. Wheeeeeeeee~! You need a bag (not a bag that you put your things in) that is on a table near the slides. Like a burlap bag. Let’s get face painting! I got flowers pink and white! All done! Pretty! Kathy and Grace, too! Oops, I forgot. Alex and Grace came too. Alex doesn’t want any face painting. Lunch time! Goodie bags first. I got an apple, stickers, a cookie, a lollipop, and a paper and that’s all. Lunch time! McDonald! A happy meal, please! I got a toy! A bracelet! Home, we go!

At home
Mom says we should go to Chuck E Cheese! Kathy says, “Me too”. Why does Kathy always have to go? Just let her go. Okay. But does Kathy always have to go? Not always. Okay, Alex, your mom will pick you up at Chuck E Cheese. I’ll go straight to art class after we play. Let’s go! Here we are. Mom, I need some tokens. Yay! Let’s play! Some more tokens. Yay! Dad’s here! Alex went home. I’m going to art class! I drew a picture from the book “Possum Magic”. Only that the bike is way too small for the grandma Possum. Then I went home. I ate dinner and took a bath and well, you know what I do every single night. Go to sleep, of course!

My weekend - 3/17/08

Today it's my weekend. I will tell you about my weekend! Whew, a break from book reports. Yay! Okay, let's go on. I think I'll start on Friday. Okay, umm.......... Okay, after school, (I don't want to talk about school coz it will take too long of time), I went to art class. I drew a frog. Then I water colored. Is that fun? Yes!

On Saturday I went to the park. I like the park. Boring... I like the part where I can climb. In the afternoon, I went ice skating. I learned something from a new lesson. It is a T-Stop and a backward stroke. Then I had free and practice time.

On Sunday I got new books. They are Julie books. I went to piano practice. I made mail for Kathy. Then I played piano. I played the new song. I played the left hand. Then I played again. I went home.

I want to ice skate like the kids in the middle of the rink because they were spinning very fast and doing tricks. Kathy doesn't know how to sliiiide. So she steps like marching. I will teach her how to sliiiiide. Later, I will keep learning.

Book Review - Ramona the Pest

3/12/08

Today I am going to write about "Ramona the Pest". Beverly Clearly wrote the book. The book came out in 1968. The book is about everyone calling Ramona a pest. A pest is someone who is annoying. There are 211 pages in the book.

At the beginning, Ramona starts kindergarten. She makes a lot of noise. She was singing a loud song. Later, she brings her doll to show and tell. Her doll’s name is Chevrolet. She named it after a car. I don’t know why she named it after a car, but I think she likes the car. At the end, well not exactly at the end, but later again, Howie gives Ramona the ribbon. Ramona wanted the ribbon because it was tied on her bunny when Howie borrowed it.

My favorite part was when Ramona learned how to print her name. It’s my favorite part because I like it when I printed my name for my school and home work. I also like when Ramona bought her new boots. I don’t know if Ramona is still a pest at the end because the book tells me nothing.

Book Review - Ramona and her Mother

3/5/08

Today I'm going to write about "Ramona and her Mother". Beverly Cleary wrote the book. There are 219 pages. The book is about Ramona's mom and dad had a fight. And about Ramona with her mother lots of times of course. But it's about talking with her mother.

In the beginning, Ramona's family had a party. It is for a New Year's Day. Ramona's mother said, "Ramona give the present you made." Ramona gave the box of tissue to Willa Jean. Willa Jean pulled out the whole box of tissues. Ramona's mother told Ramona to pick up all the tissues after everyone leaves. Later, Beezus cut her hair in a beauty shop. She didn't like her haircut. Later on, Ramona wears her pajamas to the nurse. Ramona didn't tell her mother about that she left her pajamas at school in a paper bag. She had to wear her tight pajamas. At the end, Ramona finally gets to ride the school bus. Ramona waited all summer to ride the bus, and she finally got to. Her mother said "YES!"

I don't have a favorite part. But this is a part I like. I like it when Willa Jean pulled out the whole box of tissues. And when Beevus gets her hair cut. Also when Ramona gets her hair cut. I don't think I like any other parts.

Ramona is with her mother all the time. She always talks with her mother. I think kids 6+ are to read these books. The book only talks about Ramona and her mother. One thing I don't like is when Ramona plans to go away. Her mother made the suitcase too heavy on purpose. So Ramona won't leave. She wanted Ramona to stay.

Book Review - Magic Tree House, Day of the Dragon King

Today I am going to write about the Magic Tree House #14, Day of the Dragon King. Mary Pope Osborn wrote the book. The book was published in 1998. There are 68 pages in the book. The book is about Jack and Annie in China. They have to find a lost book.

At the beginning, Jack and Annie find the tree house. They saw Morgan in the tree house. Later, the magic tree house took them to China. In China they gave the silk weaver a message. The message is about meeting a man at twilight. Later again, they go to the Imperial Library. They see all the book being burned. They find a stack of waiting books and find the book they were looking for.

My favorite part is when Jack and Annie found the book they needed. It's my favorite part because they were just in time to get the book before it was burn. Also I like it when Jack and Annie got the silk ball. It's my other favorite part because I almost can feel the silk ball. It is like I'm right in the story but I don't see things around me. The silk ball was yellow. It is made out of the silkworm cocoons.

I have lots of Magic Tree House books at home. But I don't have all of the books because new books keep coming out. I only have to get a few more books. The book has some old Chinese history parts. The book is not only fun, it alos helps you learn. You can learn a lot from the book about old China. I think most of the kids will like reading Magic Tree House. The Magic Tree House books have a lot of information about many places. Kids will know a lot from reading the books. Their parents will be happy for them.

Book Review - Just In Time

Today I'd going to write about the book Just in Time. Jacqueline A. Ball wrote the book. There are 32 pages in the book. The book is fiction. The book is about Belle and her friend being patient. Chip has to be patient 2 times.

The book is about Chip being patient. Actually everyone has to be patient. This reminds me of when I has to be patient. The whole book is about being patient. But no one was patient when they has to undo the ropes. But all of them were finally patient.

I think the older children should read these kind of books because it teaches them a lot of stuff. It is fun and smart to read. It teaches you about a lot of things. There are 4 books in this package.

All these kind of books are baby books. There are pictures books, but kids will learn to be patient. It is also a fun book for kids 6 and older. You can also read it to younger kids. These kinds of books talk about only one thing in each book. Every book is a princess book. I think girls will love to read them.

Book Review - Secrets of Droon, The Golden Wasp

Today I am going to write about The Secrets of Droon, The Golden Wasp. Tony Abott wrote the book in 2000. That's when I was born. There are 101 pages in the book. The book is about Eric's Dad in the Droon. Also Julie's bracelet is in Droon. But in the book, they got everything back,

The book is about Eric's Dad lost in Droon. And Julie's bracelet is also lost. A moon fox appeared in Eric's house. Now the moon fox eating everything! No, the moon fox is chowing everything. Sparr has all the Kings and Queens of Droon under his spell. Eric's friends finally found Eric's Dad in the dungeon. They tried hard to stop Sparr and they did it.

I think the book is for both boys and girls to read. I'd say the series are for first graders and above, or kids 6 and older. Once you get used to it and it's not too boring. I think the Secrets of Droon books entertain the kids who read them. I think the kids will want to read the Secrets of Droon book all over again.

Some parts of the Secret of Droon are sad. Some parts are scary. And some parts are fun to read. But the whole book is good. Actually all the books are good. But sometimes the books got too boring. So you have to read some other types of books to balance. But the books are really good.

Book Review - Arthur's Eyes

Today I am going to write about Arthur's Eyes. I didn't read it to myself. I read it to Kathy. Marc Brown is the author of the book. There are 28 pages in the book. The book is about Arther getting glasses. He couldn't see very well. Francine is calling him four-eyes.

The book is about Arthur getting glassed because he can't see very well. But when he wears his glasses to school, everyone teases him. Arthur doesn't like it. One day Arthur didn't wear his glasses to school. Now Arthur can't see anything well. He actually went into the girl's restroom.

I thing the kids 5 or under can read Arthur. Of course the older kids can too. But I mean the book was written for kids age 5 or under. Kids age 5 or under can read the books themselves if they can read. If not, other persons can read to them. I read the book to Kathy. Kathy likes Arthur books.

When Kathy is older, I'll teach her how to read. Then she'll love reading like me. Arthur books are fiction. That means not real. Also later I'll teach Kathy what fiction and non-fiction are. I read Kathy a book everyday. I just read it so I can practice my speech. That's what mom said.

January 10, 2008

Today I am going to tell about our trip to New York. It was the weekend of Chinese New Year. At the beginning, it took so long to get to New York. I thought it would take all night to get there. Chinese New Year is like Thanksgiving because all the friends and families get together in both of then. The little kids get red envelops to with money inside because the grown-ups want them to be health and happy in the new year.

On that Friday we went to a big mall in New York We went with Dad's mom. We were in the car for a very long time. But finally we go there. When we got out of the car, I was really cold. Mom said, "if you walk faster, you won't be so cold." I tried to walk faster but sometimes mom was behind and sometimes she was in front. First we went to shop for clothes for Dad's mom. Then we went to eat. After we ate, we shopped for more clothes for Dad.

On Saturday we packed up and got ready to leave. First the families and relatives came. We talked a little. I took a nap with Kathy. When I woke up, I pretended to be asleep. Then mom came in. When we woke up Kathy, she did the same thing as me. Then we went to eat together. In the restaurant, I got more red envelops. After we ate, we went to my Aunt's house. We played hide-and-seek. We had to count to 100.

Next we went to my other Aunt's house for dinner. Kathy and I looked at the fish. I tried to talk to the fish. Kathy also tried to talk to the fish. We went upstairs. I tried to scare Dad, but it didn't actually work. Then we all ate dinner. I only ate a little bit. After we ate, we had oranges. I ate one or two oranges. Then we went home. We got home late.

On Sunday I got my money. Some money got spent. Some went in my account. I used some money to buy fake nails, what I always wanted. All I do is just stick the nails on. and to take it off, just peel it. I like the nails a little longer than my own mails. Now I have nothing to worry about?

Cam Jansen and the Snowy Day Mystery

Today I am going to write about Cam Jansen and the Snowy Day Mystery. David A. Adler wrote the book in 2004. That's when Kathy was born! There are 57 pages in this book. The book is about three computers stolen and Cam is trying to find the thieves. Cam thinks she solved part of the mystery.

The book is about Cam trying to solve a mystery. The mystery is about three stolen computers. Cam's. Eric's and Danny's computers were missing. Danny cannot be trusted to go in the hall with Cam and Eric. But he still gets to go. Danny always goes with Cam and Eric. At the end of the story, Cam and her friends found the computers. Cam and her class ate ice cream for a reward.

I think the book is perfect for me. The book is a mystery book. Cam says "click" to remember stuffs she saw. That's how she solves mysteries. Cam's real name is Jennifer. When she was a baby, people called her Red because her hair was read.

I don't think I have the whole entire set of Cam Jansen yet. I think I only need one more book. I like reading mysteries. I can borrow the only book I need at the library or the media center at my school. There are a little set of Cam Jansen books. I can look to see if there is a books I want. All I need is "Cam Jansen and Cat napping Mystery".

I recommend the Cam Jansen's series to first and beginners of the second graders. I's going to write more about Cam Jansen's books in the future. I think boys and girls should read it. They are very good mystery books. Lots of kids at my school read Cam Jansen. The media center at my school has Cam Jansen books! I think Cam Jansen is a little famous. Everyone seems to know Cam Jansen!

Book Review - Magic School Bus, The Giant Germ

The title of my book is Book #6 Magic School Bus, The Giant Germ. The publisher is Joanna Cole. The book was written in 2000. That's when I was born! There are 76 pages in this book. The book is about Ms. Frizzle's class seeing a hundred germs in a sandwich, a trash can, a fly and inside Jimmy. The book is part non-fiction and part fiction. The books tells you a lot about germs.

The book is about Ms. Frizzle and her class seeing a lot of germs. They are fungi, protozoa and viruses. Spores help grow mold. Spores is what give mold color. Spores get carried around with the wind. Spores can be black, blue-green or pink. In this book, the mold is blue-green.

I think the book is great. The book tells me a lot about germs. I even wrote some facts about germs in here. I think some parents want kids to read Magic School Bus books because the kids will learn a lot. I got this set from my book order from school. I can't wait to get all the other books.

Most of the kids should read Magic School Bus because the books tell them a lot about real world stuffs. In the chapter books, there are little boxes that tell you about interest stuffs. Most of the other books are ones I don't have. I'll probably borrow some at the library. If the library doesn't have it, then I'll look in the media center at my school. If the media center doesn't have it, then I don't know what to do.

Book Review - Secrete of Droon, Journey to the Volcano Palace

The title of my book is "Secrets of Droon, Journey to the Volcano Palace". It is one of the book in Secret of Droon series. The publisher is Tony Abott. This book was written in 1999. There are 85 pages in this book. The book is a fiction book. And it is a chapter book. The book is about Eric, Julie, Neal and Keeah going to Sparr's home.

The book is about Eric, Julie and Neal going to Droon. Eric, Julie and Neal are helping Keeah fighting Sparr. They go down the rainbow stairs to get to Droon. They never start in the same place. In this book they are going to Sparr's home in a volcano. The place is called Kano.

I think the book is great and most kids should read it because it is very interesting. I think the book is for both boys and girls. Girls will probably not like the book at the beginning, but then they will like it. The middle of the story is great. First the book starts out boring most of the time. Then it gets better.

The book might have your favorite part. The book makes me feel like I'm right in the story. Sometimes I don't even hear people when I was reading. I don't have the whole gaint set of this series. All I need is the special edition five to complete my collection. I read some books more than 20 times. I like these books!

Happy New Year, Julie

Today I read the book called "Happy New Year, Julie". The author who wrote the book is Meagan McDonald. The book is about Julie and her family and Ivy celebrating Chinese New Year. Julie is the girl with blond hair. Ivy is the girl with black hair. They are good friends. Julie has a sister named Tracy, and Tracy is older than Julie.

Megan McDonald's first story was about a pencil sharpener! Megan liked to write when she was ten. She writes the Joody Moody books in California and some other books for children. She remembers growing up in 1970s. Megan grew up in a place with lots of books. Her home is close to San Francisco.

I feel like I'm inside the book when I read it. Also it's like the chapter book is so short. I can just zoom through the book. I feel like I read a baby book. I feel like I live right next to Julie. And like "this is my first thin chapter book". Also like Julie is right inside my head.

As an American born Chinese, I can understand some Chinese words. I will read more about American Girls. I think I'll read about Kit. She is another American Girl character. My mom said she is going to buy another book or box set of those kind of books. Also probably we'll get them at the library. There's a page of all the American Girls books in this book. So I know their names.

Ice Skating

I always go ice skating on Saturdays. Ice skating is when you skate on ice. You use different skates to ice skate. When you are a beginner, ice skating is hard. I am a beginner. It only took two classes and now I'm good at ice skating.

On 1/5/08 was my first class. I was a fast learner. At first I fell a lot of times. I don't know how many times I fell. My teacher told me how to balance and skate. First, put on knee out and bend it. Then put the leg that is behind you in front of you. That's all. And you have to keep doing that. Then we ate lunch. After lunch I practiced skating. I got a lot better. I was a little good at ice skating.

1/12/08 I went to ice skating again. This time I did wiggles and I did diamonds with my feet. I turned my feet and I made Vs. By wiggles I presses on my toes and I stayed in the same spot and I went from side to side. Then I ate lunch. After lunch I practiced again. This time I went much faster.

When you're a beginner, it's not very hard to skate. You can only skate forward though. I still want to learn some tricks. Also I need to learn how to skate backward. And to spin around. Also I want to learn how to not fall.

Thursday, January 3, 2008

Today in the morning it was cold. Dad drove me to school. When I got to my class, I unpacked my bookbag. My morning work was easy. I had to finish my party hat for New Year's Day. I never got to finish that. All I did was to draw a big S and squiggly lines. But I didn't finish my hat. Now almost everybody finished, and still not me. After that we met on the red carpet. Ms. Roshn talked about compare and contrast. She said compare is what two or more things have in common. She said contrast is what things don't have in common. Then we did a paper about compare and contrast. Then we got our jackets and went to lunch.

At lunch we were the first ones there. I had a cheese pizza for lunch. We thought we had outdoor recess, but it was indoor. In the classroom I colored some flowers. I didn't finish. I will do my flowers tomorrow morning. I wanted to make a basket too but I didn't do it. After recess Jerry and I went to assessment. A pre-assessment is a test where we do to get a grade. We were finished quick. They were time problems. Not the time on the clock, the different times, multiplication. I got all the answers right. Home work was times and subtraction. In the class, we wrote in our homework and packed up our bookbags. Then we lined up. I went to the walker line in the hall. Next I went to Bar-T. I did my homework there. Then I went to computer lab with my friends. I played on www.disneychannel.com. By the time Mom picked me up, it was dark and cold.

My Favorite Book

My favorite books are "The Secretes of Droon". Tony Abbott is the author of the books. He wrote "Danger Guys" and "The Weird Zone" also. Tony Abbott often dreamed of doors that open to the other worlds. Tony Abbott was born in Ohio and lives with his wife and two daughters in Connecticut. He thinks he has found some of those "lead to other worlds" doors. They are called books.

All the different kinds of books are, 1, The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet, 2, Journey to the Volcano Palace, 3, The Mysterious Island, 4, City in the Clouds, 5, The Great Ice Battle, 6, The sleeping Giant of Goll, 7, Into the Land of the Lost, 8, The Golden Wasp, 9, The Tower of the Elf King, 10, Quest for the Queen, 11, The Hawk Banits of Tarkoom, 12, Under the Serpent of the Sea, 13, The Mask of Maliban, 14, Voyage of the "Jeff a Wind", 15, The Moon Scoll, 16, The Knights of Silver Snow, 17, Dream Thief, 18, Search for the Dragon Ship, 19, The Coiled Viper, 20, In the Ice Caves of Krog and 21, Flight of the Genie. Tony Abbott is still writing more stories. A new book is coming next is called "Princess of Shadow thorn". The princess is named Salamandra. Salamandra is not nice. She's evil. The new book's picture is on one of the old books.

In the books all the kids are always fighting evil power. That means Sparr, Saldmora, Ninns and other meanie people and weird creatures. I like the characters Eric, Julie, Neal and Keeah because they are nice. All of them except Neal have powers. Eric can shoot blue and silver sparks from his fingertips. Julie can fly and change shape. Keeah can do the same things as Eric except the silver sparks. I hate Sparr because he is evil. He has witch power. Witch power is red. That's why I hate Sparr.

I think that both boys and girls could read “The Secrete of Droon". I see most of the girls like fairies and princess stories. But Secrete of Droon has some girls and boys stuff that girls will like too. I don't usually read fairies and princess stuffs. Some of them, I say, is boring. Dad said, "once upon a time, there were a boy and a girl. They lived happily after forever." I said that was boring. And I think Kathy should read it so she can learn how to read as good as me. If Kathy can't read in Kindergarten, I'll teach her to read in first grade. I'll teach her to read chapter books. First, baby chapter book. Next, big kid chapter books.
